Review of Veronica Mars (2014) by Mar C — 17 Mar 2014
First off, I am very excited that this movie was available for instant streaming purchase/rent. More limited release movies should go this route. I remember a movie made by This American Life with a limited release and wishing that it was available online because of the wasted time finding a venue and the cost (More on that movie later maybe).
This movie is exactly what I wanted it to be. Not saying that it was the best movie, or even that great of a movie. For someone that recently finished watching the not finished series, this was a good way to have a fix and the possibility for another series or just another movie provided that they made enough money.
The story line comes 9 years after the last season of Veronica Mars, making her and her buddies 28, just in time for their 10 year reunion. The timeline matches what happens at the end of the show, so it's neat that way. Everyone is doing their own things with their lives, but once Logan calls Veronica, it's as if nothing changed, and this is what was good about the film.
Normally when there is a gap of time between series, some actors will forget what type of characters they play, and rather than playing to the character, it becomes a caricature of the person that's supposed to be in the film. It didn't happen too much in this movie. Probably because the original show had some grittiness to it that allowed for some leeway in how the character is played.
The story format also kept its flow, and in reality it worked perfectly for a synthesized season of Veronica Mars. Think of it as having the main story of the story start and end without too many of the filler cases Mars Investigation is working. So if you are a fan of the show, this movie will do you good. And if you are a fan, please support it!
