Review of Vera Drake (2004) by Aaron B — 06 Nov 2009
This is a brilliant film! The gritty post-war feel of the film is perfect and the differences between the rich and poor is well depicted. Vera Drake is played superbly by Imelda Staunton and should have won more awards than she received for the role.
She is also well supported by Davis and Mays and the sub-plot of the daughter finding romance is sweet and beautifully played. British film-making at its best.
