Review of Venom (2018) by Jogrs — 06 Oct 2018
The people giving this a ten are no different than the critics giving it a 2. It's a 4. It's a bad movie. No, Tom Hardy didn't do a great job. No, the CGI isn't amazing. Yeah, about 40 minutes in it gets boring.
Anyone making any comparisons between this and the comics has never read the comics. Pretending this isn't just a rom-com with a superhero spin is absurd. Yes, this is a hero movie. Stop perpetuating the lie.
Venom is the hero. He acts like a hero. He talks like a hero. He loses then wins like a hero. It's a hero movie. This should have been an R rated film. They would of had more freedom to make Venom, Venom.
Instead, we get a creature that has beaten people by ripping their limbs off muted and turned into a hero that spends more time trying to be intimidating than actually being intimidating. This is a creature that once bit a guys arm off because it looked delicious.
Now, he's stopping store robberies like a steroid induced Spider-man. This movie doesn't even pretend to care about the source material. Which is a shame because Venom would make a wonderful Anti-Hero film franchise.
This movie is a 4. I've seen worse. I'll see worse. It doesn't change that this is a bad movie bordering on God awful.
