As far back as I can remember (because like Venom I was born in 1984) Venom has been my favorite. When I found out my fave actor would be playing him I was overjoyed. Being outside of Marvel Studios I hoped for the best and prepared for the worst.
After seeing early reviews I was really worried but honestly I feel like I these people did not watch the same movie I did. I was thrilled with how this film turned out. Is it perfect? Ofcoarse not, but most of the gripes about this movie are coming from people who CLEARLY never read the source material.
Tom Hardy was incredible and captured the 90s Lethal Protector dark humor of Venom in every scene and quite honestly is an Eddie Brock that quickly endeared himself to me. The theater I watched in was packed and cheered out loud during several scenes.
Everyone was talking about how much fun they had and how much they enjoyed the movie. Guys. Its a super hero movie about a guy who threatens (and sometimes does) eat peoples brains. Its a dark power fantasy based on Doctor Jeckle and Mr Hyde so if your looking for Hamlet then why are you even here? HOWEVER if your looking for a fun, action packed, VERY 90s live action Venom then this diehard fan says that SONY did what I thought was impossible.
They brought my childhood hero to life and managed to do it in a world without Spiderman. Im incredibly happy with how this movie turned out and pray that it garners enough to make the trilogy happen.
Give Venom and chance. The critics are the real "turds in the wind".
