Review of Venom (2018) by Omar L — 07 Oct 2018
After an extremely drawn-out expository introduction, the movie kicks into high gear once Eddie and the symbiote get together. The highlight of this move is the interaction between the Venom symbiote, whose wise-cracks and revelations about its personality make the creature funny and interesting.
Riz Ahmed tries to play a Zuckerberg-like villain, but there's just not enough menace behind the acting to believe he is any real threat; all of the consequences of his villainy are carried out by other people.
A lackluster fight at the end of the third act seems almost perfunctory, but the effects of bringing the symbiote(s) to life cannot be dismissed. The effects have made Venom exactly as I had pictured him to be, tongue and all.
