Review of Venom (2018) by Aaron Y — 04 Oct 2018
As a die-hard Venom fan, this movie did not disappoint. For the amount of time the cast and crew had to produce this movie it could have turned out much worse. Luckily, the script was decent and the actors were great.
Venom did a really well job of meshing the old school origin story with the new pieces of work surrounding the origin of the symbiote species. Surprisingly, it accomplishes creating its own universe without directly tying in Spider-Man.
While it may seem like an excuse to make money off another Marvel IP, it does something new; it succeeds by owning that fact that its purpose is to serve its fans and not its critics. By doing so, they were able to quickly pump out a spin off film that was funny, violent, and that achieved a well-balanced symbiosis between Eddie and Venom.
