Review of Venom (2018) by Keh-Tai C — 04 Oct 2018
Venom is a 2/5.
It's a movie for people that think superhero films peaked in the 2000's. It lacks the attention to character development that makes so many modern superhero films great. Venom is noisy, silly, and a tonal mess and it's somehow not very entertaining. Much of the film comes off as campy. If you liked the vapid messy pointless last couple of Transformers films you might enjoy Venom, but I honestly think the movie is too shallow to be enjoyed by anyone over the age of 13.
Venom shows exactly why Spider-Man films without Spider-Man don't work. Spider-Man is the grounded human attachment for the audience, he's the reason the stories work. Let's hope Marvel does it right in the future with the MCU.
