Review of Venom (2018) by Dan M — 04 Oct 2018
I was only semi excited for this one as the trailers didn't really wow me. It's a Marvel related movie so of course I'm going to see it first day. Lots of problems going on here with Venom.
One, the first act is like a dull sci-fi movie. Two, the CGI big finale fight was atrocious and ugly. Three.. another rehash of the "superhero" protagonist fighting a villain that's almost a mirror copy.
Iron Man had this in the first movie, Black Panther, The Incredible Hulk and this movie goes that same route except here, Venom and whatever the villain's name was(not really important honestly) look almost exactly the same.
Seriously it's just lazy writing at this point. Also the setup for the sequel with Carnage(sorry if it's a spoiler for anyone) is almost as weak as the end credits scene in Justice League with Lex Luthor and Deathstroke.
Also also, how do you have a Venom movie with ZERO mention of Spider-Man?? I get that this is Venom's movie, but c'mon man. One more gripe, the fact that it feels more like a corny sci-fi alien invasion movie instead of a Marvel movie, even though there's the standard Stan Lee cameo.
So with all that, two stars seems like too good of a rating. This was a fail for the most part, no sequel needed thank you.
