Review of Vengeance Is Mine (1979) by Pavandeep S — 20 Jun 2009
Extremely difficult film, its rapid transition for the audience to be sympathetic and to be disgusted is one reason that this film holds me very strongly, its inability to even answer why he kills is more disturbing in that there is absolutely nothing, no connection except the will and need to kill and to be just someone averse to everything.
Even the only most sympathetic moment for the character, which is seen early on when he was younger, has no link or even rational connection to his later murders and it could just be an apathy derived from this world that constantly breaks its own rules, from the Japanese soldier in WWII to his father's incestuous-by-law affair.
