Review of Velvet Goldmine (1998) by Logan G — 05 Mar 2008
This film is far from perfect. The production was underfunded and completed much too quickly to get a truly refined piece, but nonetheless it is truly addictive on many levels. I think where this film truly excels is in creating a perfectly queer aesthetic.
.. and it does so with such lambent enthusiasm that it's hard not to find it infectious. What a lot of people miss, though, is the very interesting and complex (sometimes confusing) way in which the film deals with the nature of identity.
