Without taking away from Rhys-Meyers' incredible performance, in the end his lack of charisma (which is could very well be the point the film is making) failed to keep me engaged.
Subsequently, Velvet Goldmine tends to feel over-indulgent and I found myself wishing that Curt Wild were the protagonist.
