Review of Velvet Goldmine (1998) by Gustav L — 14 Feb 2009
It hasn't got all the narrative splendour of I'm Not There, but the theme of David Bowie and Iggy Pop is definitely closer to my heart. Great portrayal of the ups and downs of stardom, and the dirty sexual ambiguity of Glam Rock.
While Ewan McGregor's Iggy-esque insane exhibitionist rock star is wonderful, the real treat is Christian Bale's confused and delightfully gay little glam kid. Soundtrack highlights include McGregor's take on the Stooges classic "TV Eye" and Rhys Meyer playing a happy hippy version of Roxy Music's "2HB".
