Review of Vegas Vacation (1997) by D R — 30 Nov 2009
The Griswolds are back for more fun/adventure in this standout comedy sequel, Vegas Vacation. Clark (Chevy Chase) comes home from work one day & tells his wife, Liz (Beverly D'Angelo) & kids, Rusty (Ethan Embry) & Audrey that he got a big bonus from one of his samples. Thats When Clark pulls out a brochure for Las Vegas where he decides that he wants take the family for vacation this summer. Clark & Liz are happy about it but Rusty & Audrey don't understand how thats a family vacation where all they have down there in Vegas is Casinos to gamble. Vegas won't be much fun for Rusty & Audrey where their under age & can't gamble. As long as Clark is happy, its all good. As the Griswolds vacation goes on, things start falling apart for them as they have disagreements. It just keeps getting worse & worse as Clark starts gambling & looses all his money. Thats when he finds his brother (Randy Quaid) who unfortunatley helps him out getting his money back. Later on, the Griswolds begin to realize how important it is to keep their family together & know that even though they have their arguements, that won't stop the love they share.
I'm not going to say Vegas Vacation isn't one of the best of the Griswolds adventures but it's certainly not the worst either. It was just decent with some laughs in there. It was however entertaining enough to keep you watching & having fun with. Chevy is still good as Clark, Beverly D'Angelo is still secy as Liz, kids which are all grown up now who play Ethan Embry & girl who plays Audrey are believible enough to get in thei character, & hillarious Randy Quaid is funnier as ever that stole the show for me. Even though Randy is sometimes disgusting & stupid, he cracks me up so hard lol. Overall, Vegas Vacation is worth the watch & when I say that doesn't exactly mean a one time. Just a few here & there when your bored. Don't get me wrong its still worthy sequel in the National Lampoon's series just not as funny/adventurous as the other ones were.
3 stars.
