Review of Varsity Blues (1999) by Dan T — 30 Nov 2009
This was a good movie. Shows the dark side of America's love of football. The film focus is on the intense pressures these teenagers must deal in regards to football and winning. And how the town and family members treat this as almost a religion.
The film also shows the pressures of some of these teenagers dealing with school, friends, family, sex and alcohol. The film has a great young cast starring James Van Der Beek, Amy Smart, Paul Walker and Scott Caan.
Plus Jon Voight as the head coach was very good. Overall this is a film that does a good job in entertainment and showing the dark side of high school football. Worth a watch.
