Review of Vantage Point (2008) by Rachel M — 24 Nov 2011
Ever since the Sixth Sense it always seems like I'm expecting some kind of twist ending when I'm at the theater. As a result it is really rare that I am genuinely surprised by a movie. This movie managed that not only once but twice.
I genuinely love the idea of every character having their own vantage point, and seeing how truth is often based on your perception. The way they presented the story is great because it creates a natural build one layer at a time. And while some may find the repetition of the story irritating, it seems each time feels slightly different and peels back more layers of the onion.
I find the acting to be quite good, and it's nice to see Dennis Quaid in the leading role of an action movie again. They do a good job of making each person's motivation feel legitimate. The only downside to the film is the far fetched nature of some of the action. To imagine someone walking away from some of those car crashes is just outrageous. That aside, this is one of the better action movies I've seen in recent years. It may not go down in history as a classic, but I definitely like it a lot.
