Review of Vanity Fair (2004) by Wes H — 03 Dec 2007
Reese Witherspoon glistens in this romantic period piece. The starlet shows what she's made of, and almost walks away with the entire film on her shoulders alone. The supporting cast doesn't give her much help at all - they are bland and dull, although so is most of the material that they work with.
The story, while interesting, never fully grabs you, and it sometimes feels like you are watching a documentary instead of a period romance ... for fans of Reese, the long-running drama is well worth it.
For others, proceed with some caution.
