Review of Vanity Fair (2004) by Sarah J — 24 Dec 2007
Never read the novel, and most novel to films never meet expectations anywhos, as a film I found it visually stunning, there was only one moment where I felt the nineteenth-century was really invaded by the modern - during the indian-dance.
The ending is unusal, and not neat and tidy, but I liked it, it meant we didn't have a fairy-tale ending. As a costume drama it ticks every box, and the acting was wonderful. My esteem for Witherspoon has only increased, and Purefoy is, as ever, fantastic.
