Having read the original story by Thackeray, I can safely say that this was a very good rendition of the novel. Visually, it was quite lush, which added to the wealth of the society. Some events could have been better explained; those who aren't familiar with the novel would have benefited.

The ending in the movie is different from the original, and feels too rushed; more time could also have been spent there. Rebecca is portrayed in a more sympathetic light than in the novel, but Reece Witherspoon was definitely the best choice as to who would do her character justice.

All in all, a good period piece worth seeing.
