Review of Vanishing Point (1971) by Xavier B — 07 Jan 2009
Having finally gotten around to seeing this I have to say it's disappointing. I suppose my expectation going into it was for awesome car chase sequences. Well, obviously it meets that much. At least it does for the first 1/3rd or so, when it's at a fast editing pace mixed with flashbacks. Trouble is, I guess I just want more out of a movie. It doesn't help that connecting the great scenes is a fine thread of a plot, an annoying prophetical dj, and a bunch of hippies. For its time I'm sure it was "far out." Today, not so much.
I get it, the plot is garbage but it's all metaphor, dude! Yea, bad metaphor for hippie culture. Not a fan of the period, so I can't get into it. I didn't get overly bored though so it gets a decent amount of stars for the crazy stunts.
