Review of Vanishing on 7th Street (2010) by Pourya E — 12 May 2011
What happened? I know I can't expect much from a film about darkness snatching people up but honestly this movie doesn't explain a thing. It's kind of like a long episode of The Twilight Zone with decent acting but no real plot-line.
The effects are pretty cool, when the darkness comes it's creepy and it snatches you up and leaves your clothes. For some reason if you stay in the light you have a decent chance of living but everyday the night is longer and there is less and less light.
Batteries seem to die in moments and no car except for a faithful American GM car works. This movie pisses me off because there is no hope, once the concept is set you just wait for these characters to get taken away by the dark and shadows.
Director, Brad Anderson is a pretty promising director and he does what he can with the script and plot provided but honestly please have some sort of explanation. It delves into religion briefly and personal issues and there are plenty of flashbacks but there is little to no progression.
It might be worth a rent because there is plenty of tension but you know about as much as you can about this film solely by watching the trailer.
