I figured what better movie to watch during Armageddon or the end of the world than Vanishing on 7th Street! Indeed an apocalyptic thriller about (you guessed it) the end of the world in the form of blackouts and dark shadows that lure at night.
Set in Detroit, the story begins one night during a massive power blackout. The darkness only lasts seconds and when the lights come back on, only a few people â" John Leguizamo, a movie projectionist, Hayden Christensen, a reporter, and Thandie Newton, a physical therapist â" are left.
Somehow they manage to arrive at the only bar in town that still has power thanks to a generator which will not last forever. If you are caught in the dark, the shadows will take you away, leaving just the clothing and any other material possessions behind.
What is so scary about this film? Well imagine that you wake up in a big city and you seem to be alone. A figure approaches you â" but has no face. You hear whispers but no words, see shadows but no shapes.
Thereâ(TM)s little blood and almost no graphic violence yet it is still a very unsettling movie. The director, Brad Anderson, and the writers did a fine job on this one and definitely explores the fear of the dark.
Who are these shadows, what do they want and is the entire country affected? You will have to watch the movie and find out..word of advice, the ending is not uplifting or happy whatsoever but still it is worth the rental price.
