Review of Vanishing on 7th Street (2010) by Britany S — 28 May 2011
In what was supposed to be a sci-fi thriller, Christian themes abound. Darkness fills the world, taking peoples bodies and souls with it. What could have been an entertaining chiller, ended up being nothing more than a commercial for the rapture.
Not only were the religious undertones plaguing the script (pun intended) the characters lack of logic during a life-or-death (?) situation became startlingly obvious. Instead of using the obvious form of fuel within the bar, the characters resort to scavenging for batteries and whining when their electrical devices begin to dim and flicker out. However, I supposed the use of fire could cause major budgetary problems on such an obviously low budget movie. I guess the filmmakers really wanted to keep the Christian community happy by ditching the big budget blockbuster road, and going the way of their Lord and savious Jesus Christ, after all, he was always touting a more moderate lifestyle.
In any case, the more time spent focusing on the major problems of the characters plan for survival and the uncomfortable amount of religious ideals, the more obvious it becomes that this film sorely lacks any potential of ever being more than just another $3 dvd found deep in the bottom of a bin at Wal-mart.
