This film offers an effectively creppy scenario, though it isn't fresh or inventive. Frankly, it has been done before, to better effect in other films and video games. It is decently acted even though the cahracters are daft and unrelatable.
Their actions drag the film down to its subpar sheen, relying solely on the eeriness of the darkness encroaching in on them. The explanation is nonexistent and an attempt to relate the event to Roanoke Island fails miserably.
The film could have been much more scarier with the motif of dark vs. light explored to skin-prickling effect. Instead, we get cliche' characters doing cliche' things topped off with a conclusion that has some icky conotations of its own.
