Review of Vanishing on 7th Street (2010) by David W — 24 Oct 2011
Good looking film and a good idea. And that's where my compliments vanish... When viewing life or death situations, suspending one's disbelief becomes more and more difficult and tolerance for bad decisions wanes. Way too many questions! Such as? Well thanks for asking,.
Okay, so in all of Detroit only four people are left? NOONE else had flashlights or... glow necklaces? There weren't other places with generators?! Hospitals, police stations, other pubs??? The shadows could take out the power grid and most cars but not one generator and a Chevy? Why were all the batteries so quick to die? And no convenience stores to pillage? WHY couldn't they have used more fire? Sit around a burning building for a few days then move on to another. Arrrgh, so frustrating!
If it was attempting to be existential or had some philosophy/analogy I was supposed to grasp, I didn't. The belief they existed worked for only 1. The church saved only 1. A solar powered flashlight saved the other. So not sure what the point was for alluding to the soul/religious thing.
Sorry, I have a huge problem with this premise unless we get more answers. Some movies don't need answers. This one did. Acting was terrible. I actually feel like watching some Keanu Reeves and Kevin Costner now. Waste of John Leguizamo and Thandie Newton's talents. For shame.
