Review of Vanilla Sky (2001) by Nick O — 09 Aug 2010
I feel I'm pulling myself back when it comes to "Vanilla Sky", Cameron Crowe's mind-bending flick regarding a psychotic dream-seeker. At times Crowe's sentimentality is enough to make you want to weep, at others it feels like Cruise is reliving "Eyes Wide Shut", only even in a stranger way.
A poll was held last month naming this the single most confusing movie ever to be made, which really peaked my interest. The acting is what's chilling, and by the end that's pretty much all "Vanilla Sky" has going for it. It's a cut-and-run kind of movie stretched out over 134 minutes. It's trippy, but only because it feels it has to be.
