Review of Vanilla Sky (2001) by Marco C — 09 Aug 2013
I haven't seen the Spanish original and I don't particularly care for all of Vanilla Sky's negative press. I for one was completely mesmerised, confused, intrigued and very much immersed by this bizarre, big budget and ambitious story.
Cameron Crowe threw everything at this and I loved its surreal beauty. Cruise is fantastic here too as well as an equally impressive supporting cast. Appreciation very much depends on how much you are willing to invest in participation and post credit debate.
It's mystery succeeds only if allowed and what some people will see as beguiling, others will simply see as disappointing. Another Marmite movie. How about you watch it and decide for yourself.
