Review of Vanilla Sky (2001) by Ewoudt C — 11 Aug 2010
Critics have been quick to point out Vanilla Sky's shortcomings, which include an exceptionally jumbled plot and a few performances that could have been better realized. Despite these problems, I still regard Vanilla Sky as a cinematic masterpiece that has a lot to offer its audience in terms of originality, a wicked sense of humour, a brilliant & mesmerizing soundtrack and a definite sense of eeriness that gives the movie a strong lingering quality.
Diaz makes an especially noteworthy dramatic turn that once again proves her skill as an actress that can play much more complex characters than those she usually portrays. Not the most accessible movie ever, but one that promises its audience an awesomely trippy ride that might just stick with you for years and years to come.
