Review of Vanilla Sky (2001) by Brian K — 02 Aug 2012
10/2/02 - Cameron Crowe calls Vanilla Sky a "cover" of Abre los ojos. Normally I really like Cameron Crowe films, but this was not one of his better ones. It seems like he was trying to do a movie like Memento, but it had flaws and turned out more like a poor man's Total Recall.
I thought the ending spelled everything out way too much, and it would have been much better to have left it ambiguous and open to interpretation. I didn't really care for the ending and it's explanation much either.
The movie did raise some interesting points though. The music was fantastic, which is to be expected from Crowe. Jason Lee rocks and was underused. I'll definitely have to see Abre los ojos and see how it compares.
