Review of Vanilla Sky (2001) by Eric P — 25 Dec 2010
I still have the original on my "to see" list, but I thought this was decent enough. It was a good change of pace for Cameron Crowe and I think he did a pretty good job. I love his choice of music in all of his films and thought that the casting of Jason Lee provided the levity he usually delivers.
I had trouble really feeling any sympathy for our protagonist (oh, damn, I'm beautiful and rich and woman won't stop throwing themselves at me... why won't all my hundreds fit in my wallet, wah!) and Cruises performance while disfigured was contrived at best.
But the mystery that unfolds was enough to keep me hanging on, as was the endearing performance from beauty Penelope Cruz.
