Review of Vanilla Sky (2001) by Matt F — 22 Apr 2011
Dismissed by many as incoherent and shallow, this is one of the most underrated pictures of the last ten years. Cruise is in fine form as the narcissistic playboy, but the real star of this film is Diaz, whose magnetic performance is among the best she's ever given.
Crowe overdoses slightly on pop culture references and music to keep slower parts of the film moving, but this a visually strong, sometimes stunning, movie that benefits from some strong acting and should merit a multiple viewings on DVD.
