Van Helsing is longer than it should have been and it relies too much on the CGI, which is pretty crappy in itself if you look at other movies made in the same year with better FX. I didn't like the actors who played Dracula & Frankenstein's monster.
I did love the nerdy little friar/monk, Carl though, who served as comic relief. Hugh Jackman was alright, I don't particularly like him but I don't think he's horrible either. I wish he had a better costume.
If it weren't 2 hours 25 minutes long i'd forgive it.
