Review of Van Helsing (2004) by Rob C — 20 Dec 2011
Van Helsing is filled to the brim with CGI, giving us copius amounts of it. Honestly, the producers might as well have made this film into a pure animated adventure, considering most of the settings and characters were shot in that frame.
I'm not knocking that, however, because I thoroughly enjoyed what was going on here. Hugh Jackman is a great actor when given scripts like this and it's nice to see him in this kind of element when he's offered roles of this nature.
Kate Beckinsale only has one thing going for her and that's her beauty. Her acting is a bit bland and only really shined in the Underworld films and even then I wasn't paying too much attention to what she was saying, if you can catch my drift.
As for the rest of the cast, they put in a minimal performance, coming off a bit over-dramatic with their lines, like a stage-play. Van Helsing bled its colors quite profusely in presentation, but it offered an entertaining little ride for that action-junkie wanting nothing but campy thrills, like myself.
A bit of fun, I would say.
