Pure cinematic cheese, and not the good type, the type that goes mouldy and out of date just like Van Helsing's effects which look awful now. The whole movie has aged horribly except for the hotness and talent from Kate Beckinsale.
The visuals are definitely overdone and overused taking away any effect of excitement or credibility, but it's the cast performances that suck. The accents are dreadful, the acting is just terribly campy and the laughs are worn out.
The only worthy performance is from Kate Beckinsale whose accent hits the mark pretty well! Stephen Sommers has created an unintentionally funny action adventure and turned it into a horror in itself.
