Review of Van Diemen's Land (2009) by Phillip S — 30 Jul 2009

The Australian wilderness looks spectacularly eerie in this horrific true-story of Australian criminal turned cannibal. Unfortunately there is little tension as the eight convicts ordeal is revealed to us - the harrowing narration is not backed up by the narrative as it is presented and there is a surprising lack of characterisation.

I did not feel that the internal struggle of the characters was fleshed out for me to sufficiently engross myself in what is otherwise a fascinating tale.
