Review of Vampyros Lesbos (1971) by Ricky M — 09 Mar 2008
Well the title says is all really, or does it? Essentially a loose and I mean loose reworking of Dracula this film succeeds on loads of levels. While the story is slight the surreal visuals and wonderful easy listening psychedelic jazz score raise it to levels unexpected.
Soledad Miranda is stunning as Countess Nadine, such as shame she died in as car crash not long after this was made.
To be fair you've got to be a bit of a trash/sleaze connosiuer to like this one but then you wouldn't seek out a film with this title if you weren't. Not for everyone but for those in the know one to savour.
