Review of Vampire Academy (2014) by Hawk _ — 23 Mar 2015
Vampire Academy is obviously a wannabe Harry Potter but it's one that isn't quite as bad as you might expect given the unoriginal title and it does have it's own original spin to put on the genre-namely Mean Girls.
Yes as weird as it sounds the 2004 Tina Fey comedy actually has a fair bit of influence on this film, probably because both it and this movie share a director. So you have the main character going around and constantly snarking it up, which is a lot more charming than I'm actually making it sound.
The story, as I've already stated is essentially a retread of Harry Potter but there is enough heart and spirit here that it's charming in its own way. The movie will never win any awards but I'm glad I saw it.
