Review of Vampire Academy (2014) by Keerin D — 10 Feb 2014
Okay, so I really wanted to like this movie. But it sucked. I will say that I read the books and loved them, but I also know that "book movies" usually disappoint in the sense that familiar scenes just aren't the same in translation.
But that wasn't the problem here. The problem was how downright odd the acting was, and the pacing of the scene switches. It was probably supposed to be fast, funny, and witty... But I think the emphasis was a little too far on ridiculous high school drama (don't get me wrong, the book does focus a little on it, but not as much as the movie) and some of the filming choices left me laughing helplessly at the awkwardness that I doubt was intentional.
It sucks, because I was hoping to see more of the series translate to screen, but I don't think this is gonna do it for the franchise. Next time I watch this, I'll probably get drunk first. Maybe they can consider a TV series with someone and get better acting/filmed scenes going for them.
