Review of Vampire Academy (2014) by Megan M — 12 Feb 2014
The books were great. The series as a whole kinda had a dark, edgy feel to it. But they were also very humorous and had a lot of layers to them. The first book in the series wasn't as dark and edgy as it's the starter for the series that introduces you to the world and the characters.
It was filled with a lot of humor and a lot of high school drama while dealing with real issues. From the marketing so far it seems as if they are going in the right direction with it. They're keeping up the humor of it while still keeping the bad-assness of it.
One of the most refreshing things about this series compared to other book to movie adaptions is that it's not about some girl(or boy in Percy Jackson's case) that discovers this hidden world among the real world, and this girl(or boy) doesn't find out that they're the the key to saving the world or super important.
The world is already established. Rose knows who she is, she knows her world, she's grown up in it her whole life, she's NOT the most important person or special person in her universe. It's already there.
It more like a coming of age high school drama/comedy set in a world full of the living vampires called Moroi, and the half-human/half-moroi Dhampirs. Also in this world is the threat of the evil, undead vampires called Strigoi, Rose and the other Dhampirs are trained as guardians for the Moroi to hunt and kill Strigoi.
If done right(which personally I think it will be) this should be one of the best movies of 2014.
