Review of Vampire Academy (2014) by Meg F — 16 Feb 2014

I loved this book series so on principle I really want to love this movie but it was really horrible. The plot felt rushed and the special effects were really bad. The strigoi's eyes looked like purely bad cgi.

I was really disappointed by Zoey Deutch's performance as Rose. She is not a bad actress but she definitely was not right for this part. Rose is supposed to be majorly sarcastic and if I hadn't already known that I would have missed all of the sarcasm.

I also missed the witty but biting banter between Rose and Christian. It just wasn't there. I hadn't known what to expect from Lucy Fry as Lissa but her performance was pretty good. The one performance that really took me by surprise was Danila Kozlovsky as Dimitri.

I actually really wasn't expecting all that much from him but I think he put on an amazing performance and was much hotter as Dimitri than I'd anticipated. I was going to rate this with one star but the second star goes to Dimitri.
