Review of Vampire Academy (2014) by Azeem H — 16 Aug 2014
This film sucks, both literally and metaphorically. It's being billed as from the director of Mean Girls, well it's clear the director also needs Tina Fey to write the script, because this film is scripted by his brother and unfortunately is just plain dull, uninteresting and uses everything we have seen from the fantasy teen genre from the last ten years and lastly is just terrible.
The acting is routinely awful especially by the leads, while recognised actors like Gabriel Byrne and Joely Richardson are probably really in need of a paycheck. Sara Hyland in her first major screen outing does well with a role similar to that Brittany Murphy did in Clueless, so we might see her in similar roles in the future.
The action sequences are badly edited and directed, there is no chemistry between the female leads and their male love interests, though the chemistry between Zooey Dutch and Lucy Fry works as friends with a deep bond.
Put plainly this film is just poor and the rating being given is very generous.
