Review of Vampire Academy (2014) by Catarina C — 22 Jan 2015
Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, half human-half vampire, a guardian of the Moroi, peaceful, mortal vampires living discreetly within our world. Her calling is to protect the Moroi from bloodthirsty, immortal Vampires, the Strigoi. This is her story.
Yep, this is another teen vamp flick grasping onto the tails of the Twilight Saga, but to be honest I rather enjoyed it. Yes it has enough snark at said predecessors and yes it is very expositional in it's over use of Rose's voice over thoughts. However, at least it doesn't take a film to explain the world it is set in and the chemistry between the main cast is evident. Heck, I enjoyed it for it's brutal honesty about its identity. It doesn't hold back from its YA origins and fanbase. Just a lot of harmless fun.
