Review of Vampire Academy (2014) by Sarah B — 04 May 2015
I love this book series and so this movie was a massive disappointment.
I envisioned Rose as sexy, tough, clever and quick witted. The Rose in this movie was just snarky and not clever ("Queen bee? You mean queen biatch!").
On top of that the script treats it's audience like they are stupid. It immediately begins with a stilted conversation between the two main characters talking about their history. They might as well have turned towards the camera and said "Hey audience this is the stuff you need to know". This continues throughout the movie. My favourite example being "No way you flipped your hair, that's your move, she's flirting folks!" (Yes thank you for that, otherwise I would've had no idea what was happening).
If you want to watch a movie that helpfully tells you what's happening as it's happening then this is the one for you!
In addition, the humour is terrible. The script is terrible. The characters are terrible. The 'special effects' are terrible.
I recommend you pick up the book instead, which I did enjoy reading! If I were the author I would not be pleased. This may have made a better TV show instead.
