Review of Vampire Academy (2014) by Renzo V — 01 Jun 2014
"THEY SUCK AT SCHOOL".
- 'Vampire Academy' is a 2014 horror fantasy film by Mark Waters (Mean Girls, Freaky Friday) based on the novel by Richelle Mead. To me the film was a mixture of Twilight meets Harry Potter, in other words the typical teenage movie. Unfortunately not a very good one. To stay close to the vampire theme I would even dare to say that it sucks... With Zoey Deutsch (Beautiful Creatures), Gabriel Byrne (The Usual Suspects, End of Days) and Sarah Hyland (Modern Family, Scary Movie 5).
There are three sorts of vampires: the peaceful ones who are called Moroi, the bad ones are the Strigoi and the Damphir's are half human and half vampire. These last kind have to protect the Moroi from the Strigoi. Rose Hathaway (Deutsch) is a Damphir who is destined to protect the royal Moroi Vasilissa Dragomir. The teenage girls attend the Saint Vladimir's Academy boarding school. When several bloody messages are left in the dorm room of Vasilissa, Rose and her friend Natalie (Hyland) try to figure out who is behind it and why. Could a Strigoi be involved?
