Review of Vampire Academy (2014) by Steve P — 07 Mar 2014
To enjoy this movie there are a couple of things to keep in mind: 1) it's targeting a teen audience 2) it doesn't take itself seriously and viewers should not take it seriously 3) it is very tongue in cheek 4) there's lots of witty dialogue 5) it sets up a genre cliche and then deliberately undermines it with humour.
I actually enjoyed the movie. The whole lot is rather average but there are some good one-liners, attractive actors, and it hops along at a good pace. If you've read the series you will probably definitely want to see this.
Judging from the audience response it does a pretty good job of what it sets out to do - which is to have fun and poke a few holes in the whole vampire genre.
