Review of Valley Girl (1983) by Ian H — 05 Mar 2011
This could have been totally great. All the characters have potential to be excellent, but instead of giving them a real, meaningful plot to work within the writers were like "Let's have the valley girl choose the asshole pretty boy over the sweetheart punk because.
..well, just because that's what happens to create 'conflict' in these sorts of movies and it's the 80s." And then there's a weird subplot one of her friend's boyfriend trying to have an affair with her mom that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.
And despite the fact that the folks who made this film seem confused about what punk rock is, the soundtrack kicks ass.
