Review of Valkyrie (2008) by Mark K — 14 Jul 2014
This movie succeeds mostly as a tribute to the honorable men involved with this assassination attempt. Knowing history may somewhat spoil how this movie is going to end up, but it does have some thrilling moments.
Unfortunately it can be dull in a lot of moments as well, despite Cruise's great performance. For a movie labeled as an action/thriller, there isn't as much action as I may have hoped. It's more of a historical drama with some thrilling moments.
I'm sure that blend will work for people who are more fascinated by World War II than me. However the final 20 minutes or so are incredibly emotional and make the film worth watching alone. This movie tells a story that is relevant and is about an event I personally never learned about.
Despite some slow moments, the movie leaves a major impact emotionally and for that, its worth at least one watch.
