Review of Valkyrie (2008) by Alex V — 22 Jan 2011
6.4/10 --.
An eye-patch sporting Tom Cruise attempts to blow up Hitler and take control of WWII era Germany. Could have been great but the script gives little opportunity for Cruise to flesh out his character. Then, despite all the extravagant planning and one particularly suspenseful scene, there's a constant and overbearing sense of futility to our hero's efforts, considering how the whole thing historically panned out. Worse, the film never goes it's natural course and has Cruise replace his missing hand with a hook, thereby turning him into a dreaded Nazi pirate. Tis a shame.
