Review of Valkyrie (2008) by Bradley W — 15 Mar 2012
A great WWII film based on the incredible true story that would have completely changed history forever. The entire plot of Valkyrie and the real life operation carried out by Col. Stauffenberg and his associates is brilliant, intelligent and brave.
The film was gripping and despite knowing how it all turned out it still keeps you hooked and focused. Tom Cruise gives one of his best performances as Col. Stauffenberg, the brave Nazi soldier who decided to plot against Hitler.
Cruise brought determination and intelligence to the character but also Stauffenberg's ignorance as he refused to believe Hitler survived. The supporting cast was also great and helped bring up the level of the film with Kenneth Branagh, Tom Wilkinson and a mention to David Bamber as the Fuhrer.
Director Bryan Singer (The Usual Suspects) brought forth his A game and crafted an excellent film. This film is underrated and despite its positive reviews didn't receive the credit it deserved.
