Review of Valhalla Rising (2009) by Fazeema B — 11 Dec 2010
If dialogues in a movie annoy you, then this is your movie - since there is hardly any dialogue at all in "Valhalla Rising". It's a dark, gritty and gory movie with a disturbing score and plenty of moments that make you arch an eyebrow and think "WTF...?" For some reason, it is definitely not my kind of movie and I got incredibly bored by it after about 20 minutes. The only positive thing imho: it's visually interesting and shot in the beautiful wilderness of Scotland.
For all else I take the liberty to quote fellow Facebook-er Barry Lappin, who captured my thoughts exactly: The storyline however....what the hell was this one all about?......Scotsmen...I mean Vikings apparently have some bloke who cant talk but kills everything that moves...they sell him, he escapes killing everyone but a boy...they meet some Christians...they pursuade him to sail with them to the Holy Land for the crusade...bearing in mind they are supposed to be Vikings, expert sailors, they leave (Scotland) and instead of sailing South as you would have to, they sail West and discover America where they all die......pretty much the end. Very symbolic if you understand what the hell the symbolism was about...I didnt...shame. *lol*.
