Review of Valhalla Rising (2009) by Nathan D — 02 Feb 2011
"Valhalla Rising" wants to be a movie like "Andrei Tarkovsky," "Aguirre: The Wrath of God," "Apocalypse Now," and "Dead Man." At its best, it's manages some of the same beauty as the best of those movies.
Unfortunately, it's only at its best for a total of twenty minutes-ish. The rest of the time it's tiring and unfocused and pretentious. I probably would've liked it better if I'd seen it in a theater.
But I didn't.
